Geared towards improving performance, Steve Whiddett and Sarah Hollyforde demonstrate how to create and implement a competency framework that will help you improve performance within your organisation. In addition to developing competencies, the book guides readers on how to use frameworks in: Recruitment; Performance Management and Appraisal; Training and Development; and, in support of Pay and Reward.

This toolkit enables users to develop, adapt and use competencies that fit with organisations’ goals, capture the local culture and are fit for purpose. The toolkit contains Fact Sheets, Checklists, Worksheets, Forms, Workshops, Examples and Presentations developed through practice and research with organisations in both public and private sectors. The materials in the toolkit show how to: produce well crafted frameworks; ensure frameworks meet organisational needs; and, deliver frame works to users.

The Whiddett Performance Model™ is used to analyse and plan for challenges at the organisation, department, team and individual level. These work pads can be used to: find sticking points; put action plans in place; diagnose the causes of poor performance; and, put together development plans. It is a simple tool but very effective and much appreciated by users.

Firstly Steve Whiddett and Sarah Hollysforde explore the key theories relating to motivation. Then they look at key organisational activities and relate the theories to each activity, picking out real life examples of how the theories translate into practise.
